The feeling of your blood pumping
through your veins after running up
the steps.
Pausing at the top to take a deep breath,
straighten your shirt and
run your fingers through your hair.
You slowly step towards the door,
heart pounding in your chest,
echoing in your ears.
Rat-a-tat-tat,
the sound pierces the air.
And now you wait.
Lub-dub. Lub-dub. Lub-dub.
You hold your breath.
10 seconds.
20 seconds.
30 seconds.
1 minute.
The blood is rushing to your face,
your body heating up.
You are in the middle of
a flood only you can hear.
Lub-dub, lub-dub, lub-dub, lub-dub…
You hurriedly turn and leave.
Alone.
